Lighthouse description

The lighthouse was built in 1878 on the south-western side of the island bearing the same name, 23 NM to the south of the island of Hvar and 13 NM to the west of the island of Lastovo. The island is 6 km2 large and uninhabited. The northwest side is very steep and on the southeast side there is a mild slope to the sea. The lighthouse is located 100 m above sea level and offers a beautiful view of the open sea. As the building is located high on the hill, this lighthouse is not recommended for older people and those not physically fit. There is a shepherd with a sheep herd on the other part of the island. The surrounding sea is rich in fish and it is suitable for all types of fishing. It is obligatory to have permits for fishing and underwater fishing. Due to the isolated location of the island, guests should bring their own supplies. The lighthouse can be reached by ferry from Split to Vela Luka (three and a half hours)and after that by a motorboat(an hour and 45 min). There is a keeper at the lighthouse.

Sušac is a real ''open sea island'', situated away from the regular sailing routes, west of Lastovo and southwest of Korčula. Due to its peculiar look- center of the island connecting the northern and the southern parts is significantly lower, making Sušac appear as two islands - many have changed their course and avoided it. Hidden among the cliffs of its northern shore there's a a small enclosed bay which you can reach by making a dive through a cave at a depth of 15 meters. The island also has valuable archeological remains all of which are very well preserved. Interestingly enough, most of the scenes from a film on lighthouse keepers' life were actually made at Sušac. Except being ''at the end of the world'', Sušac is also unique because it's the only lighthouse which besides squids, toothfish, lobsters and first-rate white wine offers high quality lamb for your full gastronomic enjoyment.
