"Robinson Crusoe style" houses are those located either on small islands or in remote bays accessible only by macadam roads. Sometimes this type of house is completely isolated, with no neighbors nearby, whereas in other cases there are few other houses in the vicinity. Drinking water is rainwater collected in water tanks, electricity is provided via solar panels and stove and refrigerator run on gas. There is no hot water in the house and the shower is usually of an outdoor type, with sun-heated water tanks. Due to this, rational use of water is encouraged. Moreover, all the necessary supplies should be bought beforehand since local stores are generally located far away. All houses are furnished with necessary furniture and appliances - some are better equipped, while others show their spartan spirit. My wife and I stayed here for a week in August 2015. The setting is wonderful, and the views are amazing. The house is basic, but exactly what we wanted. The walk from the nearest parking area is a good ten minutes walk - quite a steep incline, though if you can find a 4x4 taxi, you can ask the local restaurant if you can get dropped off/picked up from there (a normal car won't get back up the hill). The owners met us at the ferry, and took my wife and the bags straight to the house to save us from carrying the bags down the hill. The owners are twin brothers and are lovely. The restaurant in Stoncica is superb - great for evening drinks and/or a meal. Alternatively there's a farmhouse restaurant called Konoba Magica about half an hours walk up the road from the bay - great octopus! We rented a speedboat/rib for a few days from Vis Rent - fairly reasonable (80 euros per day), but completely worth it to see the other bays around the island. You'll need an international boat license (I got mine through the RYA in the UK). I'd definitely come back to this apartment - a great holiday!
