Lighthouse description

The lighthouse was built in 1878 on the south-western side of the island bearing the same name, 23 NM to the south of the island of Hvar and 13 NM to the west of the island of Lastovo. The island is 6 km2 large and uninhabited. The northwest side is very steep and on the southeast side there is a mild slope to the sea. The lighthouse is located 100 m above sea level and offers a beautiful view of the open sea. As the building is located high on the hill, this lighthouse is not recommended for older people and those not physically fit. There is a shepherd with a sheep herd on the other part of the island. The surrounding sea is rich in fish and it is suitable for all types of fishing. It is obligatory to have permits for fishing and underwater fishing. Due to the isolated location of the island, guests should bring their own supplies. The lighthouse can be reached by ferry from Split to Vela Luka (three and a half hours)and after that by a motorboat(an hour and 45 min). There is a keeper at the lighthouse.
