The small island with the unique shape is located in the Zadar archipelago. It is only 21 nautical miles away from Zadar. More than 200 people live on the island. It is the only settlement on the whole island. In addition there is not much traffic (on Ist's cars are not allowed) making it an ideal destination for people who want a quiet vacation. Thanks to the clean waters with plenty of fish Ist is often visited by professional and amateur diving enthusiasts. It is also a favorite destination of sailors.
The island is surrounded by numerous cliffs and smaller islets. Travelers find Ist very interesting due to its unusual appearance. Many associate it with the butterfly while others see the two horseshoes. If you decide to spend a vacation on Ist, it would be desirable to bring some food with you before coming to the island. There are two stores in the settlement, but since groceries supplying from the land is not so common, prices are much more expensive.
Because of the unavailable terrain, there are not many beaches on the island so you can find refreshments at the very center of the island, on a pebble beach or in smaller bays.
The fastest way to get to Ist is via a ferry line that connects with Zadar. The ferry runs every day, and you can find the ride schedule on the official website of Jadrolinija. The ride takes about 2 hours, and you can also come for an hour if you decide to ride a catamaran that also departs from Zadar.
